Veterans have kept our great country safe for many years. We should always be thanking and treating out Veterans with respect as many have dedicated their lives to making America safe. One day out of the year we get to say a big thank you to our Veterans as a Nation. There is much that you can do as a Veteran with your family and friends Saturday right here in Orlando.

The 18th annual City of Orlando Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 11 a.m. hosted by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and his Veterans Advisory Council. This year’s theme will be “Healing the Invisible Wounds” placing a particular focus on the mental and emotional well-being of veterans and their families. Marching bands, ROTC units, active duty military, decorative floats and veterans groups from all military branches representing a wide variety of conflicts will be featured in this year’s parade. There will be “Best Of” award presented by the Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council to junior ROTC unit, top high school marching band, and float that honors veterans for the first time. Community leaders who have dedicated their time to improving the mental health of our local Veterans and their families will be the Grand Marshals of the parade. The parade will start at Orange Ave and Robinson St. traveling to Central Boulevard, then turn left onto Rosalind Avenue and ending back at Orange Avenue. The parade will be televised live on Bright House Network news 13 at 11 am; they will have a float in the parade which will have some of Orlando’s favorite on-air people aboard. More information on the Veteran’s Day Parade.

Not one for parades? How about Military Appreciation Day at UCF. November 11th UCF football will take on UCONN at 12 at Spectrum Stadium and it is #UCFSalutes. There will be tailgating, great football, the beautiful Orlando sun, and appreciation for our great military. If you have a member of the military you’d like to honor be sure to post a picture of them using #UCFSaltues on Twitter to see that special military member on the video board at Saturday’s game.
All that our Veteran’s have done for us they should receive a free meal or something right? Check out these places that have free or discounted meals for Veterans.
With all of these great events remember why we celebrate Veteran’s day. Be sure to show our veterans the respect, honor, and gratitude that they deserve on November 11th and every day. Thank you to all of those who have served our great nation. We salute you.
